Project Synopsis

The client, a prominent U.S. seaport and a major hub for autos, bulk, break-bulk, and heavy-lift cargoes, sought to enhance its financial management capabilities. As a member of The Northwest Seaport Alliance and operating under state-enabling legislation, the Port plays a significant role in international trade. Covering over 2,700 acres, it handles a vast array of cargo activities. The Port needed a solution that could integrate seamlessly with its existing systems to streamline its unique billing processes. 

The Challenge

    • The Port’s financial operations, managed through Microsoft Dynamics GP, faced significant limitations due to the software’s lack of specialized entities for port-specific business functions.
    • The existing billing process required customization to address the unique needs such as docking fees, unloading/loading activities, labor charges, and maintenance services.
    • These processes were not natively supported by GP’s modules, leading to inefficiencies and difficulties in managing terminal billing.
